Lalanne Gets the Jacquemus Touch: Christie's Announces a Special Curation

Christie’s New York is honored to present François-Xavier Lalanne: Sculpteur, Collection Dorothée Lalanne, a landmark auction celebrating the visionary works of the renowned French sculptor. This event marks the first-ever solo auction dedicated to François-Xavier Lalanne’s work, making it a historic moment for collectors and admirers of his playful and innovative designs.

Highlighting this extraordinary event is a special exhibition curated by Simon Porte Jacquemus, the fashion visionary whose imaginative approach beautifully complements the whimsical creations of François-Xavier Lalanne.

Dorothée Lalanne, François-Xavier’s daughter, shares, “I am thrilled to be partnering with Christie’s to present a selection of works by my father. François-Xavier worked in a way that appeared casual but was, in fact, very rigorous, thoughtful, and elegant. It seemed very natural that Simon Porte Jacquemus would create the exhibition for this auction; his own work is so playful, so full of light and joy, and as unexpected as François-Xavier’s work.“

The auction features 70 remarkable lots, including iconic pieces such as Le Très Grand Ours (2009) and Lapin À Vent De Tourtour (2002), alongside Oiseleur II (2003), which will make its auction debut. These works showcase Lalanne’s mastery of zoomorphic design and surrealist aesthetics, blending art and functionality in a way that has captivated collectors and institutions worldwide.

The exhibition, free and open to the public, runs from October 4 to October 10 at Christie’s Rockefeller Center, with daily viewing hours from 10 AM to 5 PM. Jacquemus’ visionary curation brings a fresh perspective to Lalanne’s enchanting world, bridging art, fashion, and design in a celebration of post-war ingenuity and innovation.
